Statement
I have always been a worrywart, and much of my life has been spent searching for ways to transform my nervous energy into something useful. Much of my work is based in various fiber and textile processes, often combining organic and inorganic materials. I gravitate towards natural fibers and dyes because of their accessibility and ephemerality. My work often takes an abstract or indeterminate form, but the use of materials like second-hand fabrics and forms borrowed from crafted objects like baskets and quilts ground it in the familiar. Through performance and video, I am able to further explore my own identities and experiences as a queer and trans person. I find inspiration in hiking around Northeast Ohio’s forests, sharing food, exploring Rust Belt cities, and existing on the internet. I create with the consideration that my art may outlive me, but it doesn’t have to exist forever.
